When the veins in the anus and rectum get swollen they are called "Hemorrhoids".
They behave much like varicose veins. These veins can become very painful, and
bleed. Hemorrhoids are usually caused by pressure in the rectum. This pressure causes the blood to stretch and
bulge the walls of the veins, sometimes rupturing them.
Sometimes hemorrhoids actually burst, which causes bleeding, severe pain, and possibly even a blood clot. When this
occurs, the hemorrhoid has become a thrombosed hemorrhoid. In most cases, however, people know they have hemorrhoids before this
happens. By taking a hemorrhoid treatment right away, you can stop your hemorrhoids before they burst!
